YR 3/4 – Miss Rhodes
Our topic this term is ‘Cracking Cavemen’, we will be learning about life in the Stone Age.
Please encourage your child to investigate our topic. Homework for this term will be given as a weekly task which can be recorded in purple Homework Books or presented for our display. Homework show and tell is on Wednesday afternoons in class.
Here is a reminder of information about other homework:
Spellings – Weekly spelling in class will focus on spelling rules and National Curriculum Year 3 and 4 common exception words will be highlighted in your child’s diary for them to practise. Spellings will be given on a Monday and the spellings tested the following Monday. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings verbally, written and applied in sentences.
Reading – Please encourage your child to read at home at least four times per week with a range of texts and complete reading experiences termly (see the inside cover of your child’s reading diary for more information). Please write any reading done at home with an adult in your child’s reading diary. Children who have read 4 times or more will be given a sticker in their reading diary. Regular reading practise is essential to ensure children can read fluently and at pace. We always welcome book reviews and recommendations to encourage other readers in class, book review sheets are available in class. When completed come and display the review for other children to read.
Grammar Hammer – A grammar hammer check appropriate to your child’s stage of learning will be given out every other Friday to be practised and returned to the homework box any day but by the following Friday at the latest. The same grammar hammer check is completed independently in school on the following Friday. This supports the grammar, punctuation and spelling learning which takes place within the classroom.
Maths Skills Check– A maths skills check sheet appropriate to your child’s stage of learning will be given every other Friday to support and consolidate the learning in class. This is to be completed and returned to the homework box any day but by the following Friday at the latest. The same maths skills check is completed independently in school on the following Friday.
Times tables – A quick recall of times tables facts are an essential skill to support understanding in Mathematics. Children will be practising times tables before being tested on their recall on times tests weekly. Please note times tables will also focus upon related division facts.
Children will need to return homework to the zip pocket next to the door in the classroom and ensure they tick off next to their name when they have returned it. Please encourage your child to hand in their homework regularly.
PE will be on Wednesdays and also one other day each week. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in their locker all term.
Y4 children will be swimming every Friday. Please make sure your child brings their swimming kit on these days.
