YR 3/4 – Miss Rhodes & Miss Whiteley
We learn about a range of topics in year 3 and 4 through our work in topic and other curriculum areas. Please encourage your child to investigate our topic and record their research/work in their homework books. Homework is shared with the class on Friday afternoons in class. The more creative and interesting, the better!
Spellings – Weekly spelling lists focus on spelling rules and National Curriculum Year 3 and 4 words. Spellings will be given on a Tuesday and the spelling rules’ spellings tested the following Monday. The National Curriculum Year 3 and 4 words given in the term will be tested at the end of each term. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings on the spelling homework sheet and hand it into the homework tray.
Reading – Please continue to encourage your child to read at home at least four times per week, children receive a reward if they meet this weekly target. Any reading also contributes towards our class earning ‘reading air miles’, we want to travel all around the world! Regular reading practise is essential to ensure children can read fluently and at pace. We always welcome book reviews and recommendations to encourage other readers in class, book review sheets are available in class. When completed come and display the review for other children to read.
Grammar Hammer – This will be given out on Thursday to be completed and returned any day but by the following Thursday at the latest to the homework tray. This supports the grammar, punctuation and spelling learning which takes place within the classroom.
Times tables – A quick recall of times tables facts are an essential skill to support understanding in Mathematics. Children will be practising times tables before being tested on their recall. Times table homework based on the times table they are practising will be given out on a Friday and tested the following Friday. Please note times tables will also focus upon related division facts.
Maths Skills Check- Homework will be given weekly to support and consolidate the learning in class. This is given out on Thursday to be completed and returned to the homework tray by the following Thursday at the latest. Your child will bring home ‘Prompt Sheets’, which reflect their stage of learning, to support them.
PE will be on Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure that your child has their appropriate PE kit on these days. Y4 children will be swimming every Tuesday, please make sure your child brings their swimming kit.
