Governor Roles and Terms –  September 2020

Pen Portraits

Susan Chapman – Headteacher
I am very honoured to be on the Governing Board at Hady Primary in my capacity as Headteacher. I have been at Hady since 2010 and during this time I have seen the school become the heart of the community. The school is rated as good with good attainment and progress.  I see the importance of working with the Governing board to ensure we continue to offer a first class education to the pupils at Hady and ensure pupils are happy, safe and secure.

George Kotylo – Co-opted Governor
I feel very honoured to have recently been appointed as a Co-opted Governor of Hady Primary School. As a member of the local community for a number of years and with my experience as a teacher of 34 years, hopefully, I can help the pupils of our school to achieve their full potential through the decision making process of the governing team.

Although my background is mainly educational, my recent experiences have been in property development and now in the gardening business. My two sons and their wives are all teachers and one also runs a gymnastics class for children.

I am looking forward to making any contribution I can to furthering the achievements of pupils at Hady.

Hannah Dix – Parent Governor
My name is Hannah Dix and I volunteered to be a parent governor in 2017.

I have been bringing my 2 children to Hady Primary School since 2014 and I am looking forward to giving something back for all the hard work the school puts in to educating my children and the children of our community.

I look forward to supporting the governing body and the school being able to watch it flourish through the years to become an even more desirable and integral part of the community than it already is.

Sarah Palmer – Staff Governor
I am the Deputy and Year 6 Class Teacher at Hady Primary School and I am pleased to be the Staff Governor.  This is my fifth year of teaching at Hady Primary School and I have enjoyed being part of a dedicated and committed team, who strive to provide excellence.

I am passionate and committed to working to ensure that we continue to offer a quality-first education to all pupils at Hady and ensure we provide a happy, safe and secure place to learn and grow.

Vicky Clayton –  Parent Governor
I am delighted to have joined the Governing Body in October 2018 as a volunteer Parent Governor.  I am a lifelong resident of Chesterfield and have lived in Hady since the spring of 2017.  I am married with one son who began attending Hady in 2017.

I lead the Information Security team in a Financial Services organisation and have over 20 years workplace experience across Central Government and in the Private Sector.

I feel honoured to be part of the team of Governors and look forward to supporting the school to achieve its goals and realise its ambitions.

Jude Dorward – Co-opted Governor
I am very pleased to have been co-opted onto the governing body for Hady Primary, where both my children attend.  Whilst I have no direct experience of working within the education system, I have a broad range of experience to bring to the board from my working life, including my history as a qualified librarian and latterly as an ecologist and project manager for an environmental consultancy.

I firmly believe that all children should have access to a high standard and quality of education and am looking forward to working with the Board of Governors to further the work Hady Primary School and its staff already do to provide this and enable all the pupils to achieve their very best.

Alex Downing – Local Authority Governor
I am the Local Authority nominated governor for Hady Primary and I joined the governing board at the start of 2018. I currently work as a Deputy Head Teacher at a primary school in Chesterfield and have been teaching for six years across Derbyshire, South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. I have lived in Chesterfield for nearly 30 years and know the town very well. I welcome the opportunity to develop a local school by sharing my knowledge, skills and experience. I strive to offer both support and challenge to the school’s leadership team for the benefit of all pupils.

Lucy Spencer – Co-opted Governor

It is a real privilege to serve as a Governor at Hady Primary. As a family we relocated to Chesterfield in 2017 and our daughter was fortunate to be offered a place here.

I have previously been a Governor at a primary and middle school in a different county for a number of years . I have worked with children for 30 years, the last 20 years in social care.

I hope to bring both of these areas of experience and knowledge to the governing body to contribute towards making our school an even better learning environment for our children.

James Gray – Co-opted Governor

My name is James Gray I first joined the governing body at Hady in September 2014. After a brief hiatus in 2019, I returned to the board and joined the Finance Committee.  I am married with one child who attends Hady. I also attended Hady from 1979-1987. I work as a Financial Accountant at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

I relish the challenges offered by volunteering as a Governor and enjoy putting something back both into the community and the school that taught both myself and my son.

Patrick Coleman – Co-opted Governor

I have been Vicar at Saint Mary & All Saints Church (the Crooked Spire) since 2014. I believe this gives me an unique overview of the town and the local community.

As a qualified teacher, I bring knowledge and classroom experience to the Governing Body, and I have previously belonged to a number of Governing Bodies, from small rural Primary Schools, to large schools in deprived urban contexts, to a financially struggling Comprehensive.  I have served as both Chair and Vice-Chair in the majority of those posts, so I am very aware that a modern school governor is more than someone who just turns up at meetings!
From the church’s point of view, being a governor offers an opportunity to build a relationship with the community focused on Hady School.  And from September 2020 the Vicarage is moving to a new base on Hady Hill so that the Vicar can actually be part of the local community served by the Parish Church!
