Leave of Absence
All schools are coming under increasing pressure from central government, through the inspection process, to hit increasingly stringent attendance targets. One aspect of attendance that the government has decided to focus on is approved holidays during term time. As of September 2013 this will mean that head teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless in exceptional circumstances. Examples of this would include family wedding, funerals, prison visits.
Our current attendance figure of 95.7% is currently above the national figure of 95.6% but below the local figure of 95.8%. Analysis of our attendance data shows holiday absences are affecting this figure.
We realise that this may be an issue for some families but this is not a school decision. Any holidays approved before the date of this letter will be counted as authorised.
Any decision to take unauthorised leave of absence may result in penalty notices ie a fine being issued by the authority and involvement by the Education Welfare Officer.
